work and things

Aidan continues to get bigger and cuter every day! He's now four months old, as of the 20th! We took him to the doctor for his four month check up and he weighs 17lbs 7oz! Yikes...the boy's gonna eat me out of my own house! But he's doing very well and is very healthy!

I'm getting more comfortable in my position at work every shift that I work. The only thing I don't really like is that I have to work every type of shift (days, evening, and nights) in a rotation schedule. It's ok right now but we'll see when Jesse's in school this fall. Heart nursing is pretty scary but it's really interesting too. I'm not sure where I'll end up after my time on the cardiac floor but I think that I will be viable to whatever field I choose. It's been a lot of incredible experience working with heart failure patients and those waiting for their heart transplants. It's a step down unit so it's a lot of stress at times but it's fun.

Jesse starts school in a couple of weeks. He's getting nervous about being in a university vs. community college setting but I think it will be good for him. Hopefully it won't be too hard to keep up on his studies when he has to babysit Aidan after he gets out of class. We'll see. I'm basically working nights or evenings during the week so it shouldn't be too bad. We still need a babysitter for Tuesday mornings because I don't get out of work until almost 8am and he starts classes at 8am. Hopefully we'll find a babysitter cuz it's getting close.

I'm hoping to make a trip out to Arizona with Aidan sometime in early November. Hopefully I'll find a decent priced flight and hopefully I'll have enough paid time off to go. I really miss my family! It's been good here though too.

Ta ta for now.

Rochester, work, life....

Wow! It's been a really long time since I've written on here. Lots of things have obviously taken place. Aidan was born and now is three months old. He is the life of the party at all times with his smiles & cooing. I think he's going to be a rambunctious one....he definitely has lots of energy!

I started back to work on July 9th at Strong Memorial Hospital here in Rochester. I'm basically in orientation classes for six weeks with a few days here and there on the unit and then after that I'll be working for another six weeks with a preceptor to make sure that I'm learning all that I need to do to be a good nurse on that specific unit. I'm working on a VAD/Heart Transplant step down unit which means that I'm working with patients with serious CHF (Congestive Heart Failure). Most of the population is over 65 but there are a few young kids there also (20 & 22 years of age) with other heart conditions that require a heart transplant. That's sad cuz they are on the list for a heart transplant but no one knows when they'll actually receive a new heart. A VAD is a ventricular assistive device which basically pumps for the heart when your heart won't pump. It's a pretty neat deal. So...I'll be trained on CHF patients first, then VAD patients, and then SWAN patients. SWAN patients are basically ICU category patients that require IV type catheters going directly to their heart in order to keep them alive with medications. So all in all, I have a years worth of training ahead of me before I will even start to feel remotely comfortable with my surroundings. Hmmm....

Jesse is going to start back to school full time in September. He's working on his Education degree. We found out that he has to have his masters to teach though but NY State will pay for teachers to get their masters while they're teaching. So, that's not too bad. It just means another year or two of school for him though.

Aidan is getting so big now! He just had his first taste of rice cereal this morning. He's not sure that he likes it too much. I'll keep trying here and there of course. Eventually I want to be able to feed him that with his formula so that he'll sleep better through the night. I heard that works. We'll see about that. :O)

Aidan is here!

Aidan Thomas Peers was born on Friday April 20th 2007 at 7:54am. He was 7lbs 7.9oz and 19 1/2 inches long. He is such a bundle of joy! We couldn't ask for a better baby! He definitely makes his mommy and daddy proud!

We're having a baby

Well, to most this isn't new news but just in case some didn't know, we are having a baby! He is due on April 27th, however, he is still breech and so we're having a C-section scheduled for next Friday, the 20th. Jesse and I both can't wait. Nine months is so long when you're just waiting to hold this little mysterious one. But at the same time, the nine months has brought us together as a couple and I think it has prepared us in some ways for the huge responsibilities that we're going to have very soon. We're going to name him Aidan Thomas. Don't worry, I'll put up some pictures of him as soon as he is born. For now, here are is an ultrasound picture at 33 weeks.
