Thinking while the house is quiet

I have really been thinking a lot about my spiritual health. I don't know if its because Aidan's getting older & we're adding little McKenzie to our family soon. But I do know that I want to be a good example for my children and also have a healthy spiritual life for myself.

I struggle with this though because I have a hard time reading the Bible and staying interested. I don't know how to read something that I've read over and over again and make it feel like something new. I've tried some devotionals but they all seem pretty lame and they ask the simplest questions that don't really make you think. I need something that will make me think deeply about my walk with God and bring back that love that I have had in my heart once before. The one that felt like I had just met a new boyfriend & I had flutters in my heart. :) I'm not really sure how to attain this but I know that it's needed and that I need a huge change in my life.

Any suggestions for books, devotionals, better experience with quiet times, etc? I'd like to hear your thoughts.

well, personally I think trying to live with good moral standards and just teaching your kids the difference between wrong and right and who God is will be good enough. I honestly don't know if reading a spiritual book will increase your spirituality, but coming close to God on your own terms may definitely do the trick. Just some food for thought. I don't know, I don't read those kinds of books because they're just too boring for me, for the biblical teaching itself I leave that to pastors/preachers/ministers, as long as my kids have a good understanding who God is and how good people act I think I've done my job. Everyone to their own thoughts though.

I agree with that to some extent. But I also think that there are some good authors out there that have been helpful with guiding us back to a healthy spiritual life. I know that reading the Bible would help a lot but I just don't know how to get around the boredom factor.

I loved reading your post. I think we all go through spiritual ups and downs, what's important is we keep trying. Life can get so hectic and it's easy to forget to make some time to pray and meditate upon spiritual things. The bible can be hard to read (like a novel anyway) with out a companion book to study with or study group. Do you have a Bible study group you could attend? I find that regular and sincere prayer morning and night is the way we pour our heart out to God and sometimes thru reading the scriptures He speaks back to us (in other ways too). I always try to say a prayer before I read. Good uplifting spiritual music always has a good effect on my mood. If you wanted you could always read the Book of Mormon to see what it's all about :) It and the Bible have drawn me closer to Christ and given me answers, direction, and a personal realationship with my Father in Heaven. Not that I am trying to convert you, I am just telling you what works for me :) You know I love you no matter what!
Also my church has a youtube channel with uplifting messages and music that I like to look at if I need a boost :) I think any Christian could appreciate them. Here is the link

There is one about a mom you might like, it always makes me cry! It's called "my new life" and another good one you might like is "Motherhood: An eternal partnership with God" it's way good too and talks about struggles that mom's to young children have. If you have trouble accessing these I can send you links to your email. Let me know how it goes :) God loves you Sarah :) so do i, and miss you too!

Thanks Rachel! You've always been a great friend and I treasure that! Even though distance is between us right now. :)
I'm still on the quest but I've been able to change my work schedule so that I work days on Fri & Sat and then don't go into work again until Sun night...this allows me to go to church with my family and actually be awake to enjoy it and learn from it. So hopefully that will help. We don't have any Bible study groups going on right now but we do from time to time. I have some wonderful friends though that keep me accountable. Love you & miss you!
